The A l’école program is one of the main activities of France Education Northwest. FEN interns share with children of all grades, from elementary school to high school, their French culture and lovely idiom, through 1 hour long presentations at the schools themselves about any subject of interest (according to the grade of the French class). Interaction among the French interns and the local youth gives both parties the possibility to discover a lot about each other’s culture.
For the classes visited, it’s the opportunity to learn about France’s geography, history, music, cinema, fashion, electoral system, and a lot of other subjects.
As a 4th grade French teacher at the Broadview Thomson Elementary School stated after our intern’s visit: ”They (the children) came back speaking French!”.
The last presentation was made during the Valentine’s day, 2012, at the Port Townsend High School. This day was the opportunity for our interns to discuss of the forthcoming French elections with very interested 11th and 12th grade students, but also cinema and fashion!
The teacher’s thought about the presentation: ”A wonderful presentation! The discussion of political past and coming election was especially timely. A Wonderful experience for my students!”
