Finally, what are you a connoisseur of?

Thank you to the volunteers who helped make the Bastille Day Festival a success!
On Thursday, August 25th a Thank You Party was thrown for all volunteers who contributed their time and energy to Soirée
Belle Époque and/or the Bastille Day Festival. It was held at a private home on Queen Anne Hill with a spectacular view
of Lake Union.

There was delicious food and wine, delightful conversation, and a free raffle for four bottles of wine. Attendees also participated in the Festál Fabric of America (FFAP) program where they answered the question: What are you a connoisseur of? For more information and to submit your answer to the question, click here.
If you would like to join our permanent list of volunteers and you are not already on it, please sign up here.

Seattle Bastille Day Festival Visual Art Contest
The Bastille Day Festival wants to know what French culture means to you!
France Education Northwest is holding its 8th Annual Bastille Day Festival on July 9th & 10th, 2011, at the Seattle Center as part of Festál. The event will feature French music, food, wine, games, crafts, a marché - activities for everyone!
The Bastille Day festival is taking part this year in the Festál Fabric of America Project, funded by the Seattle Center and the Wallace Foundation. The goal of such a program is to engage the community, especially participants between the ages of 13-30, in the arts and to allow people from near and far to be directly involved in the festival.
So, this year, a visual art contest is held, officially announced on May 17th, where photos, videos, drawings or any other visual art submissions are accepted. Anyone can submit a design! The design needs to be related to France in some way and respond to the question: “What are you a connoisseur of?” and it must not contain any copyrighted images. Two winners will be selected: one between the ages of 13 and 25 and another one over the age of 26. All the submissions will be displayed during the festival!
All images must be submitted electronically on bastilleday.festalproject.com.
For more information about this contest, please contact FEN at culture@faccpnw.org or at 206.256.6184. For more information about the Bastille Day Festival please visit www.seattle-bastille.org.

Dorie Greenspan at the University Bookstore!
On October 18th, Dorie Greenspan, presented her new cookbook "Around My French Table" at the University Book Store.
Now in a big, personal, and personable book, Dorie captures all the excitement of French home cooking, sharing disarmingly simple dishes she has gathered over years of living in France. "Around My French Table" is a cookbook packed with lively stories, memories, and insider tips on French culinary customs.
France Education Northwest and the French-American Chamber Commerce were being promoted at the event. We had a raffle with wonderful prizes, such as awesome Beaujolais Nouveau aprons and a French-American teddy bear! We had such a nice time listening to Dorie talk about her experience of cooking, shopping at the market, testing recipes, eating and simply living in France!
If you were not already fond of France and French cuisine, you just need to listen to Dorie, and she will make you fall in love with France all over again, or for the first time.
A l’Ecole Presentation starts a new program in High School
The first presentation took place in Issaquah Middle School Pacific Cascade Freshman Cascade. On Wednesday April 21st, two French students, Thomas Billaudel, volunteer for the association and Aurelie Simon, Consular Assistant at the Consular Agency of France in Seattle, went to this high school and made a presentation about France.
The presentation in a high school is more focused on the way of life of French students.
The teenagers were very interested in how young people are dressed in France or what type of music they are listening to (French Rap, Techno…). A lot of questions were asked to the volunteers about their own experience.
We all thank Karen Boschker to welcome this new kind of presentation in her school, and we hope that lot of French teachers will be interested in this project.

If you wish to book a presentation in your school or library, please contact us at events@faccpnw.org.
